On March 2, 2009 on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the writer, the Museum of Sholom Aleichem has been opened in Kyiv – the first state museum in present day Ukraine dedicated to Aleichem. The exhibition is not only about work of the famous Jewish writer, poet, playwright, essayist, but also the material and spiritual culture of East European Jewry in general. On display, the visitors can see photographs of the Jewish architecture of Ukraine, the unique art of stone-cutters Jewish (Jewish gravestones – Matseva), fragments of films based on the works of Sholem Aleichem, the ancient Jewish books; also learn more about the “Beilis Case” (trial, which attracted the attention not only the Russian and European society of the early twentieth century). A virtual exhibition of the Museum represents on the monitors the Jewish spiritual culture, Jewish material culture.
